Horace and John Dodge were brothers with a vision. The Dodge Brothers Company was founded back in 1900 initially used to sell bicycles, but in a few years, it became a supplier of engines and transmissions for the automobile industry. The company was successful from the start. While they started producing engines and chassis initially for the Ford Motor Company and Olds Motor Vehicle Company, the brothers wanted to manufacturer their own line of cars and produced the Model 30 in 1914. Over 200 vehicles were built in this year alone, and the company shifted to foucs on solely manufacturing automobiles. In 1916, vehicles built for Dodge had ranked second in overall sales for American cars. Unfortunately, in 1920, both brothers died of the flu. The company was sold to Dillon, Reed & Co. and eventually the Chrysler Corporation in 1928. Dodge branded vehicles were primarily trucks and full-sized passenger cars throughout the years, up until the 1970s, when the brand produced a range of midsized cars due in part to an oil crisis taking place. Some of the popular Dodge models that have been produced throughout the years include the Charger, Challenger, Ram, and Dakota, though these are just a few.
