The Saturn Corporation was a company established on 1985 as a subsidiary of General Motors. General Motors started planning the company back in 1982 as a way to help counteract the wave of cheaper and higher quality vehicles that were coming into the US from Japan. General Motors wanted to be able to produce superior cars in response. They developed a production model that became available in 1990, which was known as the SL2. The corporation was launched with the slogan “a different kind of car company,” and had unique car models compared to others in the GM family. They also had a separate dealership network from GM. The S-Series developed by Saturn won several awards from MotorWeek, J.D. Power & Associates, and Motor Trend. In 2000, the brand introduced the midsize L-Series. A few other models were added to the product line through the 2000s. In 2010, General Motors discontinued production of the brand.
